Overview:
Obesity starts early in life and early feeding practices including breastfeeding, timing and type of first foods are predictors. While we know little about feeding practices of Aboriginal infants and toddlers in SA, it is clear that these children carry a disproportionate burden of obesity and anaemia, possibly due to energy dense but nutrient poor diets. To fill these knowledge gaps, we will conduct a survey of feeding practices, weights and prevalence of anaemia in SA Aboriginal infants and toddlers. This information will determine the need for a targeted interventions to combat obesity and anaemia.
